I'm visiting from Ireland and I've never had a good experience shopping for bras and bra fittings as a plus size woman. As such, while visiting I said I'd try and do a bra fitting in the US as there are better sizing and ranges available. I cannot express how happy I am that i found and went to Forty Winks.
This will be the fist time I've ever said this about clothes shopping: Forty Winks, Becca specifically, made shopping painless, productive, and pleasant. I was dreading my appointment and was shocked by just how kind, patient, and, ahem, supportive Becca was. I generally hate clothes shopping and hate bras.
I've never really had a bra that fits perfectly and decided it was finally time. A lot of trial and error with big box stores made it difficult to feel comfortable or would mis-measure. I found Forty Winks on Google!
I've been to several very good lingerie stores for bra fittings over the years and Forty Winks is right up there with the best of them! Dani and Skye were incredibly helpful and I never felt rushed. I like their approach of trying various bras and working from there rather than measuring.
Plus size bridal & formal at Forty Winks
Forty Winks comes up for plus size bridal and formal wear — confirmed on their own site. Two things to know before the trip. First, bridal shopping is usually by appointment — book ahead, and when you call, ask what size range their try-on samples come in. A shop can order almost any gown in your size, but the sample sizes on the floor decide whether you actually get to see yourself in the dress, and the good plus bridal shops stock samples to try, not just to imagine. Second, plan the alterations timeline: gowns and formal dresses typically go through two or three fittings, so the comfortable window is starting your search around 8–10 months before the date and saying yes to a gown by 6.
