Rainbow Shops was founded in 1935 in New York City by Irving Arthur Swarzman. Rainbow was chosen as the store name to reflect the colorful and varied range of affordable fashion options available in the store. Swarzman and his brothers built the business up to eighty two stores before selling them in the 1980's.
