I found the dress of my dreams at The Wedding Embassy! WE was the first store I had an appointment with to try on dresses. I loved being able to walk through, look at the dresses on the rack, and select the ones that I wanted to try on. I worked with Mikaela and she was wonderful!

First, bridal shopping is usually by appointment — book ahead, and when you call, ask what size range their try-on samples come in. A shop can order almost any gown in your size, but the sample sizes on the floor decide whether you actually get to see yourself in the dress, and the good plus bridal shops stock samples to try, not just to imagine. Second, plan the alterations timeline: gowns and formal dresses typically go through two or three fittings, so the comfortable window is starting your search around 8–10 months before the date and saying yes to a gown by 6. Alterations are mentioned on site here, which makes the fitting logistics a whole lot easier.
