I went to Jacqueline's in search of a formal gown for a black tie event. I had looked many places and, at age 58, was having trouble finding something that looked great and fit right.
First time mother of the groom, Jacqueline’s bridal was recommended to me from a friend who has a boutique in Wellesley based on her clients’ experience. I made the appointment easily on line. This was my first and only shopping stop for the dress.
I was extremely happy with my visit to Jacqueline’s. There was an excellent selection of dresses and it was clear that Jacqueline was a very experienced professional. She pulled dresses so well that I bought that first dress I tried on. My mother also found a beautiful and elegant gown, first one she tried on, too!

First, bridal shopping is usually by appointment — book ahead, and when you call, ask what size range their try-on samples come in. A shop can order almost any gown in your size, but the sample sizes on the floor decide whether you actually get to see yourself in the dress, and the good plus bridal shops stock samples to try, not just to imagine. Second, plan the alterations timeline: gowns and formal dresses typically go through two or three fittings, so the comfortable window is starting your search around 8–10 months before the date and saying yes to a gown by 6. Alterations are mentioned on site here, which makes the fitting logistics a whole lot easier.
